With some adjustments, it works

I purchased this crate because I have a dog that is very high strung when I leave and destroys my house. I had purchased a basic crate from Petco that my dog was able to get out of daily, so it did not serve it's purpose.
When I received the crate I opened the box and found out it was damaged in shipping. I emailed the seller requesting an exchange due to it's damage but they told me to take it to a welder and have them fix it and they would reimburse me for it. All in all it works now.
As one previous review mentioned, the latch on the roof is very flimsy. I was very disappointed on the 2nd day of having it working to see my dog had escaped. The latch on the top is centered so all my dog had to do was push up on the edge a few times and it came right off. I ended up buying some chain and locks for the corners, and haven't had a problem with him escaping since. The latch on the front door is the exact same latch as the one on the top, but I haven't had a problem with it. I would recommend being proactive and re-securing the latch on the top someway, or you'll be sorry.
It's worth buying if your dog is an escape artist, but be ready to make some adjustments to the crate so you don't have problems. |

| The crate had a defect that we had to rig to make it work.. No directions for assembly made it difficult to assemble and time consuming.. |
Poor construction, poor results

This cage arrived well packaged but with several bent bars and missing bolts and screws. After obtaining replacements from Home Depot, I stabilized the cage for a bit until the screws holding in the hinges stripped. Also, my dog (50lbs, but bright) figured out how to open the latch from the inside with her teeth.
After adding a steel grate to the door, and several more bolts to secure it, the front bar which holds up the floor sheared off, and the front of the floor has collapsed. Also, two of the wheels broke free (the nut they screwed into was attached to the cage bottom too frailly).
Again, my dog is only 50lbs. Her ability to escape is her own, but the cage itself should not be breaking from her weight and movement.
This cage is poorly built. I've essentially had to build an entirely new cage around it an continue to find failures from the original unit.
If this is "heavy duty", I think I should find a metal worker and start a new company :( |

| I bought this from Pampered Pets and Home Supplies. Like March 2010 it arrived with pop rivets broken (and some even fallen out). Hardware was loose in box. It looked as if the product was a return. Then, I had to enter into a data plan just so I could send pictures to show this broken product to the vendor before he would decide to take it back. He would not take it back unless these picutres were sent. It was a very frustrating week. I was told I was impatient because I felt the customer service should not take days to return calls or emails and give an okay once I complied with the pictures. He felt a "few weeks" was an acceptable turnaround time on returns. Trying to rescue dogs, including those with major separation anxiety (like any other business) should not take weeks to return defective merchandise (and don't need to send photos first). I still need to find a crate for this dog but now am wary about doing business online as well as trust receiving a "level 3" crate just to find out it was not worth it. The product and experience were a disapointment. |
